Frequently Asked Questions about SOLO+

Frequently Asked Questions about SOLO+

On Wednesday 13th October 2021 we launched SOLO+, a new A-frame model specially created for those who want to build a tiny house.With the help of MIT Professor Sheila Kennedy and her team, we developed SOLO+ on the backbone of SOLO, increasing its floor area and functionality (read more about this below).

In its first week, SOLO+ sold nearly 200 copies of the DIY Construction Plans… making it our most successful Series ever.You may wonder whether SOLO+ is for you, so we put together this page to answer the most common objections and questions.

IMPORTANT: if you don’t see a tiny house in your future, it is not our intention to brainwash you into getting one. The information that follows is meant to help you take this step ONLY if you already have a strong wish to do so.

A FEW OBJECTIONS…

#1 – I DON’T KNOW IF I HAVE THE SKILLS FOR A DIY PROJECT

…and you’ll never know if you don’t give it a try.
Passing on this opportunity will not answer the question of whether have the skill or not.
The best course of action would be to engage in this project with a friend who has some manual skills and do this together.
DIY projects can be a great opportunity to create a strong bond among friends and to elevate your self-confidence.
Alternatively, you can still pay a local carpenter to do the work for you. This will cost you something but it completely removes the risk of not completing the project.

#2 – I’M NOT SURE ABOUT THE FINAL BUDGET

Building a SOLO+ is definitely the most affordable way to build a tiny house.
That is because:
it is a DIY project (you put the work in or you pay a local carpenter);
you can source materials locally (hence avoiding paying for transport and other fees);
you don’t have to pay for the manufacturer’s overhead and profit.

So, if you really want to start a new chapter in your life that involves living in a tiny house, this is your best shot at writing the first page.
Once you have the complete DIY Construction Plans Set, you can start budgeting for all the materials and you can figure out how much you’ll need to complete the works.
If that sum cannot come out of your pocket all at once, you can phase the works and complete the structure first, then make it weathertight and work on the interiors once you refilled your pockets.

The point is: SOLO+ puts you in control of your costs. Other tiny houses don’t.

#3 – I ACTUALLY WANT A LARGER HOUSE BUT I CANNOT AFFORD IT

I understand, I have been there.
In this video, I talk about my experience dealing with that.
Just because you can’t afford a larger house right now, it doesn’t mean you have to put your life on pause.
As a matter of fact, living in a tiny house can make your life richer.
Building a SOLO+ can be the opportunity you need to restart your life and but it on the right track.

#4 – I DON’T HAVE LAND WHERE TO BUILD IT

…and you never will until you think you don’t need one.
Simply getting the DIY Construction Plan Set for the SOLO+ will reframe the way you think about yourself and your future.
In fact, after your purchase, you’ll no longer be that folk who doesn’t need a land… and you’ll start to see opportunities for buying land pretty much everywhere!
While you work on your budget and on sourcing the materials, you’ll find the perfect land for your build.
If you don’t make the first step, you’ll never get that land. Guaranteed.

#5 – WHAT IF AFTER ALL THE MONEY AND THE TROUBLE I DON’T LIKE LIVING IN A TINY SPACE?

Fair question, but how do you answer that if you don’t try?
In this video, I mention you can repurpose your tiny house in many ways… so actually it is a good investment.
The thing is that you most likely won’t live there forever.
In most cases, tiny houses serve the purpose to get us through a phase of our life, to make us better human beings… and then we are ready to move on to our next adventure.
…but if we resist the first move, that adventure never begins.

#6 – THERE ARE MANY SITES SELLING BUILDING PLANS. WHY SHOULD I GO FOR AVRAME?

Because this is not our first project and because SOLO+ was designed not just by Avrame but also by MIT Professor Sheila Kennedy and her team.
Can other companies say the same about their plans and projects? 🙂

SOLO+ is the absolute easiest way to build a Tiny Home.

This is your chance of joining the revolution we are bringing in the tiny house market.

Do you really have a reason to make it more complicated than this?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Just to make absolute clarity, here are the answers to a few recurrent questions from other Avramers…

Q1 – WHAT’S THE SIZE OF SOLO+ ?

SOLO+ comes in 3 sizes:

  • SOLO+42 with floor area of 17.1m2 / 184 ft2;
  • SOLO+75 with floor area of 33.9m2 / 365ft2;
  • SOLO+100 with floor area of 38.4m2 / 413ft2.

All models have a loft which is meant to be used as a sleeping area.

Q2 – WHAT ARE THE MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SOLO & SOLO+?

SOLO+ has a wider base the SOLO and it is a bit higher.
This results in more floor area and in a fully functional loft area.

The differences are actually subtle but the functionality of SOLO+ is greatly improved compared to SOLO.

Base width:

  • SOLO+ 4.5m / 14.7ft
  • SOLO 4.2m / 13.7ft

Top height:

  • SOLO+ 4.9m / 16ft
  • SOLO 4.4m / 14.4ft

Q3 – IS AVRAME GOING TO MANUFACTURE AND SELL A HOUSE KIT FOR SOLO+?

Only for business customers and bulk orders.
The main point behind SOLO+ is to make it affordable.
Providing it as a kit would add considerable costs for you (our overhead and profit + shipping) which would make the entire project financially not viable.
While it is not convenient for anyone to order (manufacture, handle, ship) just one unit, it is a different story when we talk about bulk orders of many units.
In the future, we plan to manufacture SOLO+ on custom orders for business customers that need a bunch of them.

Q4 – WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO HEAT SOLO+?

Given its modest size, we recommend using a common air pump heater.
A split unit will work great for this.
